Rising Caesarean Section Rates in the Czech Republic and Brazil – Determinants And Costs Estimation Analysis

Marie Kalkusová, Tereza De Castro

Současná Evropa 2019, 2019(1):4-15

The rising proportion of caesarean births beyond the World Health Organization 15% threshold level has been a worldwide trend consecutively creating an additional financial burden to health care systems. The Czech Republic used to report low Caesarean Section (CS) rates; nevertheless, since 2004, it has surpassed the recommended level. Currently, it belongs among countries with a 25 to 30% rate. On the contrary, Brazil has been the world's leading country in CS birth rates (57% of deliveries), reaching alarming numbers already in the 1980s. The aim of this paper is firstly to seek the reasoning behind significantly higher numbers of CS rates in Brazil...

The UAVs in International Trade and Logistics - New Challenges and Regulation

Iveta Černá, Eva Křenková

Současná Evropa 2019, 2019(1):16-28

The paper is focused on the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in international trade and regulation, while special attention is paid to the position of trade and production leaders, categorisation of UAVs according to performance parameters, and last but not least, to MFN rates applied to imports of UAVs under six relevant HS codes. Indeed, given the security aspects, UAVs are subject to a wide range of regulatory issues that shape their trade flows and application possibilities. This is inter alia reflected in their actual employment in logistics. The national states vary in terms of regulations applied, yet, e.g., within the EU, a common UAV...

Dmitriy Barkhatov, Petr Marek, Jan Martin Rolenc, Jarolím Antal

Současná Evropa 2019, 2019(1):29-51

The global energy sector is currently undergoing some of the most fundamental changes in its history. The world today experiences what could be called another revolution or paramount switch with the emergence of renewable and alternative sources of energy. One of the most environmentally friendly sources with regards to emissions is nuclear energy. The Czech academic debate on the issue has been so far negligible, and especially its economic dimension seems to be overshadowed by international security and environmental concerns. The article aims to identify and evaluate the implications to the economic dimension of the energy security of the Czech...

Energetická politika Evropské unie a její dopady na trh s elektřinou

Jakub Zezula

Současná Evropa 2019, 2019(1):65-76

Evropská energetická politika vychází z energetických balíčků, které obsahují závazná pravidla zvyšování energetické účinnosti, snižování emisí skleníkových plynů a navyšování podílu obnovitelných zdrojů.

European Union Food Aid to Developing Countries

Petr Pospíšil

Současná Evropa 2019, 2019(1):77-81

The European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations department (ECHO), guided by the European Consensus on Humanitarian Aid policy framework, has achieved the European Union's objectives of delivering food aid to developing nations during humanitarian crises. From an economic viewpoint, the regulatory policy considers the availability of resources to determine the level of aid that should be offered at any particular point in time. The policy also covers the legal aspects that govern the allocation of funds for food aid, particularly by defining the criteria for selecting the recipients of such donations. My analysis of the policy...
